Beautiful details and personal touches on your wedding day

Weddings are full of unforgettable moments, but the personal touches often leave the biggest impression. They're the elements that truly make a wedding unique. As a wedding photographer, I love hearing about the personal details and the thoughts behind the decisions you've made.

One of the sweetest stories I've ever encountered involved a bride who was a schoolteacher. Her students clearly adored her, and in the lead-up to the wedding, her classroom assistant came up with a heartfelt surprise. They secretly asked the children to write messages and congratulations to their teacher.

These messages were then carefully attached to a bridal veil, creating a unique and special gift.

When the bride received the veil, it was a moment of overwhelming emotion. The veil wasn't just a thoughtful gesture, but a reminder of the relationships she had built with her students. The messages in the children's handwriting were heartfelt, brimming with innocence and joy.

Bringing the Veil into the Wedding Photos

On the wedding day, the bride approached me with a special request. She wanted to include the veil in some of her photos, as it was a meaningful part of her story. If you know me, then it was an obvious " Of course we can, I'd love to". Incorporating personal touches like this into the photos is one of the things I love most about being a candid wedding photographer. These details aren't just decorative—they hold real emotional weight and add layers of meaning to the images.

Why Personal Touches Matter

What made this story so special wasn't just the veil itself but the thought and care that went into creating it. These details elevate a wedding from a beautiful event to a personal celebration.

These personal touches are what make your day feel like your day. Whether it's a handwritten note exchanged before the ceremony, a pair of cufflinks engraved with a meaningful date, or a veil covered in student messages, these touches remind everyone present—yourself included—why the day matters.

From a photographer's perspective, these personal touches add incredible depth to your wedding gallery. They tell a story that's uniquely yours, ensuring your photos feel authentic and full of life.

Capturing the Details

Details like this veil are a dream for any photographer; they create opportunities to tell a deeper story through images. As someone specialising in candid photography, I aim to document these details in a way that feels organic and true to the couple.

Ideas for Adding Personal Touches

Suppose you're planning your wedding and wondering how to make it feel personal. In that case, there are countless ways to incorporate meaningful details:

Gifts from loved ones: Think about sentimental items, like handwritten letters or jewellery, passed down through generations.

DIY elements: Create something unique, such as hand-painted signage or personalised favours.

Family traditions: Include customs honouring your heritage or paying tribute to loved ones who can't be there.

Personalised décor: Incorporate elements that reflect your shared interests, like table names inspired by your favourite books, movies, or destinations.

The most important thing is to focus on what feels meaningful to you as a couple. The best personal touches aren't necessarily the ones that take the most time or effort—they're the ones that genuinely reflect who you are and what matters most to you.

The Emotional Impact

Looking back at the photos from this wedding, I'm reminded of how powerful these personal details can be. They go beyond aesthetics, creating moments that resonate long after the day is over.

For this bride, the veil wasn't just a beautiful piece of fabric—it was a connection to the people who cared about her, a reflection of her impact as a teacher, and a reminder of the love and support she carried with her into her new chapter.

As your photographer, I capture these moments and details in a way that feels timeless and true to you. Whether it's a surprise gift like this veil or a quiet moment of reflection before the ceremony, I'll be there to preserve the memories that matter most.
