How to Get the Perfect Wedding Confetti Photo

There’s something magical about a fantastic confetti shot. It’s fun, spontaneous, and brimming with joy—a perfect way to kick off the celebrations as a newly married couple. As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen (and captured) my fair share of these moments. With my expertise, I can guide you to nail your confetti photos, ensuring you have the perfect shots to remember your special day.

Choose the Right Confetti

The type of confetti you choose is crucial. Biodegradable options, like dried petals or eco-friendly paper, look fabulous in photos and contribute to a sustainable environment. They fall beautifully and add a splash of colour to the scene. Avoid heavy or damp options that might not float as gracefully. Bonus tip: Check with your venue to see what they allow so you can be fully prepared for your confetti moment.

PLAN THE PERFECT SPOT

Your confetti photo will look best in an open, well-lit space. Outdoor areas with natural light are ideal, but if that’s not an option, a bright indoor spot can work, too. I’ll help scout the perfect location on the day—somewhere with enough room for your guests to line up and toss the confetti high.

GET EVERYONE INVOLVED

A great confetti shot needs enthusiastic participants. Encourage your guests to throw the confetti upwards (not directly at you!) for a softer, shower-like effect. Assign a few people to hand out confetti just before the moment to ensure everyone has some and is ready to go.

WALK SLOWLY AND SMILE

The key to a beautiful confetti photo is taking your time. Stroll down the aisle (or designated path) and enjoy the moment. Look at each other, laugh, smile, or even steal a quick kiss—these candid moments make for the best shots. I’ll capture it all from different angles so you can relive the joy later.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

We’ll coordinate with your guests to ensure the confetti is tossed right—usually when you’re mid-walk. Don’t worry; I’ll brief everyone beforehand to ensure the timing is spot on.

CONSIDER ALTERNATIVES

If your venue doesn’t allow traditional confetti, don’t worry! Plenty of creative alternatives exist, like bubbles, sparklers (for evening weddings), or even leaves for an autumn celebration. These can create equally stunning and unique photos.

LET’S MAKE IT PICTURE-PERFECT

Confetti photos are a fun, joyful way to capture the excitement of your wedding day. With some planning and help from your photographer (that’s me!), you’ll have photos that capture the moment beautifully and find confetti in your hair for days to come.
