This is one of my most loved shots, loved by me anyway. We as a family were off on a day out, I think we visited London’s Natural History Museum. A great day for my son as he loves a tried ride and dinosaurs.

Image of the Week | Wat Tyler Wedding Reception
This was taken at a recent wedding at Wat Tyler Country Park, Essex. The father of the bride has just made his speech and the microphone was being handed along the head table and when it reached the bride… Always a nervous moment when the bride stands and decides to say a few words
. After a few thank you’s the lights dimmed and the projector was switched on. What followed was a brilliant video message from the bride to the groom, it was absolutely fantastic. There was a brief history of how the couple met, a few dodgy pics, embarrassing video clips and it all came together superbly well. Lots of laughter and a few tears, a great moment and one I won’t forget.

This image is from a recent wedding day at Wat Tyler country park. When I’m at a wedding I like to take my couples away from the main party to capture some intimate portraits. I find this approach works really well and the feedback I receive backs this up. Wedding days are all over far too quickly, time really does fly by! I remove my couples from the main party for only around 10 or 15 minutes and will do this a couple of times throughout the day. This way, they are not missed for too long, they can really enjoy their day and these pockets of time become really precious. It’s a nice time out to spend some quality time with each other and to have some great moments captured. Removing the bride & groom from the main party for an hour or so at a time is crazy, the day soon becomes and feels like a photo shoot and I feel the main point of the day is lost.

This weeks chosen image is from a wedding that took place at the popular Gaynes Park, Epping. At the venue, Apple Loft Cottage had been put to good use by the bridal party. I had covered bridal preparations and was with the bridesmaids as they were applying finishing touches. The groom and his party had arrived and had been ushered towards the Orangery, this is where the ceremony was taking place. The Orangery is a short distance from the cottage and can bee seen from the main bedroom window. I was anticipating a bridesmaid having a sneaky look at the grooms party but what I got was all four crammed in and getting a not so sneaky look! It was a lovely moment and after shooting a couple of frames it was over.

I love this image, not technically spot on but what does that matter when the groom looks like he’s about to burst! Look how happy and proud the man is! This is just before he has a look over his shoulder for the first time at his beautiful bride.

I always find a good time to capture intimate moments between guests is during the speech delivered by the groom or the father of the bride. A day filled with love, good food, alcohol and touching words from the groom will always encourage moments like this to develop.

Image of the week is more like Image of the fortnight at the moment. It’s a very busy time of the year and I have loads of work that i need to catch up with so is a little delayed. I’m just taking a break from the editing to post this. When I take portraits of guests at weddings I try and get something a little different to the standard ‘stand facing me and smile’ pose. I use that pose as a starting point but with a few prompts and a little interaction it’s easy to get away from something standard to something more interesting. This is a photo of the best man & his partner and was taken in the grounds of Wickwoods Country Club, Sussex.

This image is all about anticipation, seeing the moment unfold & getting the shot quickly. This was shot with a Canon 7D at 105 mm, which would be around 160 mm on a full frame? I tend not to use a long zoom, I prefer to be amongst the action or up close engaging with my subject. On this occasion the longer lens allowed me to nip in and capture the moment pretty much unnoticed and also compressing the depth of field which helps make this image.
